What an event, the grand final of a junior SACA game and the first GF for a lot of our players. Yes lots of excitement but our team was very professional and focussed. Skipper Will Warrick won the toss and decided that runs on the board were the best way to play in a final. Even though the pitch was green and the sky grey, we were going to bat. Tully Kennett and Harry Edmonds were both back in the shed with the score at only 14 in the 11th over. Not the ideal start but enter Arham Hashmi. In the semi final he was dynamic and explosive, guess what, he did it again in the Grand Final. He stroked 53 off 57 balls to change the game in our favour with 3 massive sixes. Liam Nichol had played the perfect partnering role to Arham but both were dismissed by the 27th over and the score 78. Momentum back to the Browns! Liam Winskill and Fred McClure batted superbly for a 51 run partnership in only 61 minutes to take us to 129 in the 46th over. Both batsmen out for valuable knocks of 25. Darcy Hunkin stroked a quick 15 off 23 balls and combining with the lower order the team rallied and we finished with 179. The target was 180 so job done !! We had 5 overs at the Adelaide openers before stumps but could not make the breakthrough. Day 2 and the breakthroughs soon came courtesy of some super bowling from our dynamic duo in Will McGowan and Will Warrick. After 15 overs, the Adelaide team were 2/21 and under pressure. Max Monfries and Darcy Hunkin bowled superbly not allowing the batting team any easy runs and after 32 overs they were 4/48. Crafty leg spinner Fred McClure entered the attack and bowled 10 overs unchanged for 1/18 and left handed Darcy Hunkin was hooping the ball in to the right hand batsmen from around the wicket for 2/13 off his 10 overs. Will Cowling, another clever leg spinner in our attack had the Adelaide batsmen baffled not knowing which way the ball was spinning to bring season best figures to the GF with 3/26. Adelaide all out for 97 with a comprehensive victory to the Kensington team. An outstanding performance for the squad with only one narrow loss for the whole season earlier in the year. The whole team contributed for the finals series and thoroughly deserved the Premiership. Arham Hashmi clearly the man of the series with 2 outstanding match winning innings. Well done Browns !!
