KDCC 135 & 4/135 def East Torrens 117 We won the toss and elected to bat on what looked to be a flat Ford Oval wicket in very windy conditions. Our top three all looked comfortable but fell before establishing themselves to leave us 3/42. Club debutant Sam Lucas and Jack Read then built a good partnership and rarely looked in trouble to put us back on top. Unfortunately Jack was trapped lbw on the crease on 20, just as he looked like dominating and Sam fell four overs later for a solid 29, leaving us 5/103. Henry Rice drove the ball beautifully and looked in complete control but wickets had started to fall around him with some regularity. He eventually fell for a well made 25 and only Will Rice offered any significant resistance from the lower order. We were bowled out for 135 off 38 overs. Their openers made a patient start and whilst they played and missed many times, managed to survive through to the 19th over when they were 0/39. The leg spin of Will Cowling was introduced with immediate effect to remove their most damaging player who was well caught in the deep by Will Rice. The second and third wickets also fell to Will Cowling leaving them 3/53 at the close of play on day one. Day 2 resumed and it felt like ground hog day, our mediums bowled straight but too short, their batsmen patiently resisted. At 3/70 the game was well and truly in the balance. Will Cowling then broke through but they struggled on to 4/90. Fellow leg spinner Will Quigley-Smith was introduced and he too had almost immediate success. Wickets then started tumbling with all of our spinners joining in on the action to eventually bowl them out for 117 in the 66th over. Will Cowling finished with 5/30 off 17 overs, Will Quigley-Smith took 3/8, Will Rice 1/11 and Jack Read 1/3. Special mental to Liam Nichol and Peter Unerkov who both took very good catches. We had approximately two hours left to get some batting practice and Peter Unerkov 31, Ben Belperio 39 and Sam Burgess 38 all looked to build some form.
