This week our young group of 3rd Grade players fronted up to Payneham Oval to take on yet another older and more experienced opposition. After again convincing the umpire that our girls were allowed to play in this competition, captain Sam Tammita won the toss and put the opposition in to bat, hoping that some of the damp from the previous days rain would work in our favour.
Our young bowlers managed to remove their #2 and #3 batters for 0 and 1, however were not able to take the key wicket of their captain and opener who retired on 63. After some helpful advice from the umpire, Alicia Doyle took her first wicket playing for Kensington. Despite tight bowling and fielding, our big hitting opponents scored 4/159 from their 20 overs.
A win would be very difficult from here, but again our batters proved to be resilient and despite losing the wicket of Bella Drew, runout with the score on 3, our girls batted out their overs to be 4/69. Once again our young group earned the respect, and frustration, of their opposition and proved they will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
