KENSINGTON Under 14 Red 9/230 Defeated West Torrens All out 208
We all knew this was going to be a good test playing the undefeated top side and losing 3 players to higher grades.
The openers got us off to a positive start with Cormac Dwyer following on from his century last game with a very confident (27) and Archie adding (14) to an opening stand of 46 before a fall of wickets saw us slump to 3 for 58 with Luke Homan (4) getting little opportunity to contribute due to some very good bowling.
Jack ( can I hit out yet?) Matchett (74) strode to the crease and played very maturely, punished the bad balls and along with good support from Hamish Towers (29) added 78 for the 4th wicket to get us to 140 . Ishaan Oak played well forward to a leg spinner and was unlucky to be given LBW for 2. Shivam Channa (27) supported the tail while the remaining batsmen played for team runs with Milo Bennett smashing (with an injured Back ) 17 and Oscar Lawrence (7) unselfish in his run chase.
With no team scoring over 200 against West Torrens, the boys were adamant they wanted to beat them, particularly considering 4 bowlers contributed to 56 of their 60 overs.
Day 2 was hot, but we were still feeling positive although at 0/30 off 5 overs it was obvious it was going to be a long day. West Torrens were 3 /133 at tea after a run out and a wicket each to Hamish and Jasper. But cricket is a funny game and we were a different side after tea. With West Torrens requiring 100 off 32 overs with 7 wickets in hand we decided to treat this as a one day game and the pressure was put on the bowlers to really tighten up…..and they delivered. With the runs drying up their batsmen were forced into pushing the pace and were doing okay until Liam was able to superman across to a flashing coverdrive and pull off the catch of the year to lift the team and from there we never looked back with the amazing catches winning us the game. Oscar Lawrence held on to a red hot catch at gully , Archie dived full length at midwicket to get his fingers under a lofty shot , Max took a sharp one at wicketkeeper but Cormac took the pressure catch running turning and running to take a difficult high catch. Ishaan strangled the run rate with 2/24 off 11 and Oscar bowled exceptionally well under pressure (2/16 off 7). Special mention to Shivam who under immense pressure bamboozled all the batsmen with his leg spin and took 3/36 off his 16 overs , a match turner who thrived the more he bowled and we are looking forward to the rest of the year from him.
A Fantastic Team Effort. Well done boys.
