Kensington v Trinity Old Scholars
With Round 1 of the new year competition heated out the previous week, we took on Trinity at home for the first game of the new competition. A late change to the start time of the SACA Women’s 1st and 2nd Grade games, brought forward to allow players to get to the BBL final at Adelaide Oval, meant Maeve Edwards was unable to play in the 2nd Grade fixture and joined the 3rd Grade side. Kensington batted first, and following a rush of blood from captain Sam Tammita, and a nick to the keeper from Alicia Doyle, we were suddenly 2/4. Maeve joined Eloise Jansen at the crease, and the pair put on 122 runs, with Maeve finishing 75* (13@4, 1@6) and Eloise 11*, Kensington posting a very competitive 2/122 from their 20 overs.
Trinity boasted a couple of strong batters, but our bowling attack was on point.Trinity was soon 3/8 in the 2nd over, with Matilda Stone (2/29) on a hat-trick, and captain Sam Tammita (2/3) again in great form. Some sharp fielding from Maeve Edwards, running out the opposition’s key batter with the score on 36, was instrumental in keeping the scoring under pressure, and Trinity were all out for 60 in the 14th over, our young side scoring a well-deserved first victory.
