We needed to win both rounds to secure our place in the Grand Final next weekend.
Round 9 v Port Adelaide, Renmark
After a very long bus trip to Renmark, via Port Adelaide, we arrived to a hot and steamy welcome. Fortunately the temperature had fallen below 40, after a week of extreme temperatures. A quick lunch and then on with the game.
Fortunately we won the toss, and chose to bat. Openers Bridget Patterson and Eliza Doddridge moved the score along at a steady pace. However, losing Eliza and Ash Gardner in successive overs slowed the rate temporarily. Sarah Lowe then joined Bridget and the scoring picked up, despite very long grass in the outfield making boundaries very hard to come by. The middle ten overs saw 90 runs added before Sarah was out for 38 (2@6, 1@4). Kelly Armstrong and Katelyn Pope both then offered great support to Bridget, and saw us post a very credible 5/155. Bridget carrying her bat for 78 from 58 balls with 2@6 and 4@4.
Port’s run chase didn’t get off to the best of starts and they were well and truly on the back foot at 2/1 after the first over, following great catches by Katelyn Pope and Kelly Armstrong. A run out, another good catch to remove Amanda Wellington, and at 4/15 in the 4th over, the game was pretty much ours. It was just a matter of whether we would dismiss them inside the 20 overs. Another run out – a direct hit from Shae Daly – and impressive bowling from Katelyn Pope (3/1 from 4 overs), Sarah Jameson 1/0 and Shae Daly 1/1 saw Port all out for 26 in the 17th over.
As well as being Country Round, this was also FebLuary Round with Bridget Patterson awarded the medal, with a catch and run out on top of her 78* .
After dinner at the cricket club, we were transported to Berri and checked in to our accommodation there. Fortunately Kathryn and Russell Doddridge did a great job of washing our uniforms after the Renmark game, so we were clean and ready to go to take on Sturt in Berri the next morning.
