Kensington U16 White round 2 vs Glenelg On a magnificent day at Marryatville High School, Kensington skipper Luke Valente won the toss and asked Glenelg to bat. David Hamann bowled a good opening spell to get the first wicket with 22 on the board. We then had to wait til the score reached 50 before Finn Hillberry broke through for his first wicket for Kensington in the 19th over. Ben Cox and Riley Slack then proceeded to strangle the Glenelg batsmen with really tight bowling and unfortunately a few dropped catches let the pressure off but only for a short time. At the end of the 12 over partnership the Bays were in tatters at 6/73 losing 4/19 in this spell. Skipper Luke Valente took over from the southern end to clean up the tail with 2/2 off 2.5 overs and Ben Cox completed his best return at under 16 level with 4/16 off of 11 overs. The end result was that Glenelg were all out for 81 We had 29 overs to bat for the day and it started poorly with Sam Carruthers gone in the first over with no score on the board. Runs were tough to come by but by the end of the 11th over we were in trouble at 4/34. Rory Illman and Fred McClure then started the rescue mission slowly edging towards the Glenelg total. A partnership of 24 was invaluable but on 58 disaster with Rory loosing concentration to the opening bowler and then 5 balls later the hero with the ball earlier Ben Cox was on his way without any addition to the score. Suddenly 6/58 and the Glenelg total was looking mountainous !! Stumps were drawn with the game evenly poised with our bowlers having to be the batsmen next week to beat the Bays !!
